Dwarka Expressway Is Going To Get Completed By December-end: Nitin Gadkari

The Dwarka Expressway is a key highway that is going to offer connectivity between Mahipalpur in Delhi and Kherki Daula in Gurugram. It is going to get completed by December-end, Union Minister for Highways and Road Transportation Nitin Gadkari.

For the first time in the country, a 720 kV high-tension power line was shifted for the construction of the road. It took an effort and coordination with both the Haryana and Delhi government to get these issues resolved. The company has spent around rs 500 crore for shifting utilities and another rs 500 crore for additional land acquisition.

Without a specific deadline, Nitin Gadkari said that the section of the road in Gurugram will be ready in the next three months, and the entire highway will be ready for traffic by the end of December this year. In fact, prime minister Narendra Modi is going to inaugurate the project. Keeping in mind the convenience of commuters, we will not wait for a formal inauguration but there are also shortcomings that need to be addressed.

The expressway not only offers an alternative link between Delhi and Gurugram but also takes off the load from the Delhi Gurugram Expressway. This highway is also expected to boost growth and it will also ensure seamless connectivity to the Dwarka region where a host of projects, including the international convention center and state-of-the-art sports complex and stadium are coming up soon.

For the first time in the country, a 720 kV tension power line was also shifted for the construction of this road, and this also took a lot of effort and coordination with both the Haryana and Delhi government to get these issues resolved. The government has spent around ₹500 crore for shifting utilities and another ₹500 crore for additional land acquisition.

This expressway has been constructed in four packages and the total length of the road is 29 km, 18.9 km falls in Haryana and the remaining is 10.1 km in Delhi. This highway project was conceived by the Haryana government in 2016 after the Union government took up the project at the state government’s request.

The construction of this project started in 2018 and the road was originally stated to be completed in 2021, and the deadline was extended due to the Covid outbreak. Regarding the removal of the Kherki Daula toll plaza, the minister said that NHAI was working on a toll collection system using GPS technology, which will end congestion. It will also ensure the commuters pay only for the stretch of highway that they have used.

This expressway is going to be constructed in four packages. The total length is 29 km, with 18.9 km falling in Haryana, and the remaining 10.1 km in Delhi. The project conceived by the Haryana government in 2006 has remained stuck due to legal and land acquisition issues till 2016.

However, the project was also started in 2018 and the road was originally stated to be completed in 2021 and the deadlines were extended due to the Covid outbreak. After the removal of the Kherki Daula toll plaza, the minister also said that NHAI was working on a toll collection system using GPS technology. The toll collection Delhi-Jaipur highway will also continue as resources are required to maintain the roads.

The third package between the Haryana border and Basai Dhankot is 94% complete with contractors giving the final touches to the road stretch. The fourth, the final package between Basai Road and Kherki Daula is almost finished.
